On Fridays, we spend our time singing songs and hymns and spiritual songs making melodies in our hearts. We should at all times and in all places GIVE THANKS to the LORD our God!

As we approach America’s Birthday Celebration, we should start singing patriotic songs, sort of like Christmas carols in the summer time.

In 1893 an English Professor at Wellesley College named Katharine Lee Bates made a trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado and was so inspired by the view from atop the mountain – Pike’s Peak that she wrote what she saw.

First written as a poem, then set to music is a scripture filled song – America the Beautiful

Oh beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,   { Numbers 18:11 }

For purple mountain majesties { Isaiah 52:7 }

Above the fruited plain!

America! America!

God shed His Grace on thee   { Psalm 84:11 }

And crown thy good with brotherhood { Psalm 65:11 }

From sea to shining sea!

Oh beautiful for pilgrim feet   { Isaiah 52:7 }

Whose stern impassioned stress

A thoroughfare of freedom beat   { Isaiah 35:8 }

Across the wilderness!

America! America!

God mend thine every flaw,

Confirm thy soul in self-control,   { Galatians 5:22 }

Thy liberty in law! { James 1:25 }

Oh beautiful for heroes proved

In liberating strife.

Who more than self their country loved

And mercy more than life!

America! America!

May God thy gold refine   { Malachi 3:3 }

Till all success be nobleness

And every gain Divine!

Oh beautiful for patriot dream

That sees beyond the years

Thine alabaster cities gleam

Undimmed by human tears!

America! America!

God shed His Grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

Amen and Amen!
